Labors
Labors
A day’s work,
By
the piece or the hour,
Or the week,
Or the lifetime,
Compensated and taxed,
Shaved off the top.
Fruit-bearing,
Cherry-dazzled top:
Time-popped.
Future-sharing and wealth-spreading:
Their labor.
A day’s work,
Gestation-ending,
Birth-giving,
Mother-making.
Dilated and pushing,
Through the bright crown.
Child-bearing:
Donning the cased crown:
Pro-nouned.
Cross-flaring and sown seed-spreading:
Her labor.
A day’s work,
Leading-on
the parade,
On the floats,
Throwing candy,
Progressive retirements:
White shoes re-shelved.
Path-bearing
Crowds’ funds now un-shelved:
We-selved.
Wide-load-sharing and pride-spreading:
Our labor.
A day’s work,
Carrying-on these toils,
Our efforts,
Our nation’s calls:
Infrastructures buttressed,
Beacons brightened.
Right-bearing
Cadence enlightened:
Heightened.
Rockets-glaring and hope-spreading:
Love’s labor.
