Requiem for the Party

Requiem for the Party

There was that time
In 2016, when, at last
I was eligible—twice now—
to run for the
Presidency, as per Article II,
When I, for the second time,
Did not seek my party’s
Nomination, when I lost
My bloodline.
Our veins collapsed.

There was that time,
In 2016 when, at last,
An imposter claimed
That nomination
Instead—surely and
Ridiculously—embarrassingly,
When the one badge
I’ve worn my whole conscious
Life was shed.
Our dreams collapsed.

There was that time
In 2016, when, at last
The party left me,
With nothing like a
Lipstick letter on the mirror,
No chance for make-up
Sex sorries or pleadings.
I stayed to the bitterest:
Last to leave.
Our love collapsed.

From Lincoln
From Roosevelt, the first,
From Eisenhower,
From Reagan, from Bush,
From standard bearers,
From Forebears,
Defenders of America,
Protectors of  liberty. To
Lunacy.
Our history collapsed.

There was that time
In 2016, when, at last
I was stripped bare,
The single badge I’ve always
Known, ripped from my
Heaving chest, doused
In tears and bloodstained.
All Grand gone, passed friend:
Old Party.
Our hope collapsed.

  1. My sentiments exactly. Thank you for the words--the images--that say it all. :(

    1. It's one thing--terrible in and of itself--to build walls around our nation. It's another thing--even more sinister--to build those walls between the people within our nation.
